I was especially touched and greatful to connect again with ALL of my '66 classmates and especially my very closest Amigos (Pat, Jeanne, Lessia, Toni and Michelle). We reminisced about times that I had almost forgotten (Yo-oh Darr-yl…). I love them all and will never ever forget the impact they had on my childhood. I feel blessed to have had them surround me growing up. Thank you again Josie, Brian and all of the other wonderful contributors to this successful event! Thank you all for the great time. . It was so special to me.

Brian Dusza, so we finally meet after all of those emails. . . your work was outstanding on this. What did you do to your class to instigate this turnout???? I swear they were coming out of the woodwork. . The last phone call I got from Pennie Z telling me about one more classmate coming was on Thursday Evening - - I sighed and said "I'M TURNING OFF MY PHONE NOW" I swear, I was checking my emails until the last minute yesterday - figuring I wouldn't be surprised of yet another '66er had been found at the last minute or decided to come. I' m so glad I was able to accommodate all the last minute people - - the hall was wonderful about it - - I must have called them 10 times in the last 2 days uping the total . . but they never complained. AND by the way, they said our group was fantastic - so whatever happened afterward, after you left the Cotillion , while you were at the "school function" we all got E's on our report cards. (I bet there were a few check marks later though huh?) Thank you for the big bouquet of flowers. . I'm am looking at them now as I write this, they are beautiful. .

Daryl Chapman, , the pictures were excellent and just the right ones to represent that all important 70s era. . I can see some of you were the models for that 70's show back then. The picture with you and the cigar is really funny - did you want an 8X10 of that to put up at work??? or maybe not . . . sometimes its best not to share things with people at work - - I talk from experinence after having a few too many margaritas at the Police Dept picnic. . Dancing on tables is still being talked about 20 years later!!!

Jim Broccolino - the Tshirt is perfect. . and the book of memories - - Thank you for all your help in tracking down people and all the funny memories and gee who at the reunion will not remember your hats!! Of course the picture will be up on the website so no chance of that.

So email pictures from last night . . we'll get them posted as soon as we can. . . I don't know how many we can flood Karen Mueller with, but she seems to go with the flow on everything. . (BTW, PLEASE REMEMBER TO EMAIL THEM AND THANK THEM PERSONALLY - - I GET ALL THE CREDIT - THEY DO ALL THE WORK)

Probably see each other again sometime. . . Hey the class of 67 is having a reunion - - you guys should contact Keith Johnson (his email is in the program on the first page) and do another one. . . I'll go just to see Johnny Start again!

Thanks again for everything - - the reunion was a success because of your awesome attendance.

Josie

sanding desks

SO HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAD TO SAND DESKS??? I THOUGHT OUR CLASS WAS THE ONLY ONE!Josie

Josie, Reading Don Kaihatsu’s article (item #11-sanding desks) reminded me of another story I pulled out of my “Dumb Stuff I did while at Beaubien” file. While in Mrs. Shrivers 6th grade I thought it might be interesting to leave a legacy to the next crop of 6th graders by carving my initials “PG” into the top of my desk. Mrs. Shriver was not amused and on top of fulfilling my duties as her nominated “Vice-President In Charge of Looking Out The Window” I had to explain what I had done. She didn’t buy my story that a buddy of mine tried to frame me after I taunted him for stapling his own finger to the black board. Neither did JJ Healy who made me stay after school to complete my very first woodshop project of sanding my desk. A great time was had by all. Josie

Don’t know if you want to post this or not, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide. I’ve been in touch with two members of the Class of ’66 that are unable to attend.

First, I’ve talked to Michael Knitter on the phone twice. He goes by “MJ” these days, lives here in Southern California, is a successful architect, has been happily married for about 15 years to a woman named Margie and they have no children. They’ll be attending a wedding in Hawaii so unable to attend the reunion but he passes along his regards to everyone. I told him that I’d give him and update and share photographs when we’re both back home.

Next, I just recently have traded a few e-mails with Pennie Zavakos. She’s been married 31 years, and has 3 grown children (1 girl, 2 boys). Pennie checks the web site frequently and would love to attend the reunion but was unable to reschedule a previously planned trip.

Looking forward to next week. You’ve done a wonderful job of pulling this together.

Michele Lack

Message from Donna Gustafson '66

Hi, received this email from Donna last night - - unfortunately she cannot make it to the reunion (a little far to travel all the way from France!) but she would love to hear from her classmates. . Our job was to set up and operate the projectors for all the teachers in the school. Part of an “unspoken privilege” was the ability to roam the building at will. As I recall, Arty Holm, John Garrity and I had plenty of adventures down in the basement. In several rooms we discovered all kinds of woodworking benches, shop tools and drafting tables. We never understood what all that old equipment was doing there.

Several years after my father, Fred Guske, passed away I was looking through some of his old Lane Tech Preps( magazines published through the print shops at Lane, dad was a graduate of class of 1937) and ran across an interesting column in a March 1936 Prep. Evidently Beaubien was one of two elementary schools that served as a branch for Lane (the other school was Stockton). The article states that the Beaubien Branch “occupies most of the third floor, two or three rooms on the second floor, and two well equipped woodshops in the basement.” It also describes “a basketball court, four climbing ladders, exercising rings, and ten shinny poles. The mechanical drawing room being in 307 and a total enrollment of 241 boys.” This solved the mystery from years earlier and I couldn’t believe all that great stuff was still there.

By the way, I still remember Miss Jackson helping us overcome(?) our fear of heights by making us shimmy up those cold, hard steel poles. I’m looking forward to greeting all our classmates, especially Bill Wilson (we served together while in the Army at Ft. Bragg,NC) and Ken Panczyk who imparted to all of us a great deal of encouragement and confidence.

Sincerely, Phil Guske Class of 66

Class of '66 Blog

Josie and Ken hope you all will share your ideas, plans and stories about the reunion Sept 15th (and other stuff).
